1990 – 1998 Museum Assistant
The Museum of Welsh Life.
General curatorial duties including research and documentation work, conservation and weekly housekeeping duties. Assisting the Education Officer with translating museum questionnaires from English into German. Help to man an exhibition on Buildings in miniature where supervising a group of children building their own 'Lego' miniatures. Accompanying senior members of staff together with one of the museum photographers on a house visit to record a small Victorian building comprising a built-in wall oven and wash house. Assisting Mrs. S.M. Tibbott (Assistant Keeper) with the preparation of a temporary exhibition entitled Good Housekeeping, 1895-1955 (Cadw Ty) which based on material from the Museum reserve collection traced the evolution of domestic appliances from the earliest days of mechanization through to the early days of electrification. Involvement with all the preparatory work for the exhibition including the selection of specimens and the researching of illustrative materials. Personal Research included a study of eighteenth and nineteenth century travel books on Wales and an examination of the value of topographical prints as sources for ethnological studies. Main efforts were directed towards researching the history of the foundation of the MWL and its subsequent development. In addition to the usual documentary sources, also interviewed present and past members of staff including two former curators and a former director of the National Museum of Wales.
1998 Scientific Worker

Assisting the compilation of reading lists, providing information to researchers for books and articles. Also assisted preparation for 12th Congress of the International Society for Folk Narrative Research (Horizons of Narrative Communication) where reading two papers for researchers from China who weren't able to read in English, viz. for Jin Maonian: The Horse in Folk Narratives of the Mongolian Nationality and for Jia Zhi: A Probe into the Civilization of the Chinese Nation Based on the Exploration of Folk Narrative. Also meeting with Robin Gwyndaf who works in the Museum of Welsh Life to talk about new tendencies in Welsh folk narrative and his lecture: Verse Narratives in Everyday Communication: Performance, Form and Function.

Preparation of an anthropological exhibition including the selection of specimens and the researching of illustrative materials. Giving talks to groups of children. Conception and furnishings of special exhibitions and a concept of "museum in shopping windows", photograph inventory of the supplies. Wrote a museum guide in the English language.

Writing articles about concerts and other local events such as planting new trees alongside a river, reporting from a car repair work course for women, about a bible exhibition in a village, political meetings and discussions, a report about the introduction of a new Lutheran protestant minister in a local village.
